Birth of a State of Mind
One day I walked downstairs and knocked on my neighbor’s door.
“Hey I have an idea. Where’s Mike?” I asked of Mikki and Antoinette.
“Next door, I believe.” Mikki answered slowly.
I knocked on his door, his roommate answered. “Hey, is Mike aroun..” I saw him, “Mike come next door, I have an idea.”
He joined us. “What ya got?” He asked.
“What do you guys think of turning here and next door into an art gallery?”
“Um, yeah..” Mikki said.
Mike chimed in with “That’s fucking brilliant.”
“I dig it.” said Antoinette.

First thing’s first, “How do we do it?”
“Mike, you’ve been here long enough and have made enough connections in the community that we could pack this place with art. Not to mention all the art that you, Mikki and Antoinette are capable of producing.”
“We can set up a November or December show, send out invites via facebook and email. Then get some friends to bring their art, we’ll hang it and see what happens.”
Money? “Let’s try to get these BuyArtists kids to kick in if they’re serious. If not, what do we need?”
“Lighting.”
“Do you have nails to hang stuff?”
Yes.
“Ok, then let’s focus on hanging and gathering supplies. I’ll talk to them about kicking in.”
We had a month and some change to throw together an official 950 Hart Gallery show.

“Come on, come on, come on, let me show you what it’s all about.”
